Taoism vs. Buddhism in Japan

How did Taoism and Buddhism influence each other in the first millennium (1 C.E. - 999 C.E.) in Japan?

  1. Good question, but you should talk about japan and another region. On the overview it says to choose at least two regions we've discussed in class.

  2. The 1st millennium may be too broad of a time period, you might want to shorten the time period.

  3. Taoism is associated with China, Shinto is in Japan. Interesting question. However, for this assignment you will need to look at the interaction between countries in at least 2 cultural regions. Perhaps you could examine the process by which Buddhism diffused into China and the implications for indigenous practices (such as Taoism).
