This will be a very interesting study. Narrow down your topic to the type of European influence (ex. cultural, political, economic) and choose one specific time period in which you can compare the two very different regions. For example, you may want to look at South Africa (Boer War) & China (Boxer Rebellion) between 1895 & 1920.
Try to stick with either influence or imperialism as having to write about two topics may be too difficult as well as too broad.
