We grouped both Pakistan and Afghanistan in South Asia. For this assignment, you need to address two different cultural regions. If you are interested in a theocracy, you may want to consider Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Sudan, Mauritania, or Yemen. It will also be useful to define a time period.
I'm not a hundred percent sure, but are you sure you are allowed to talk about its effects on today, rather than a time period in history. If you can't use today, than maybe use the 1900s. If you can use today, than its good!
Maybe talk about a specific group of people.
