We've spent the past week examining the history, culture, and contemporary status of China. Based upon our studies, describe how contemporary China reflects both continuity and change. (Hint: Consider our studies of the geography, religions and philosophies, historical developments, the "Chinese Communist Party," and "Tank Man" as you prepare your response.)
Contemporary China shows change in economics because they opened up trade with the West, which was limited before. It shows continuity through the continuation of political and religious oppression in China, and the continued poor living conditions of China's lower class.
ReplyDeleteIt also shows change through increased globalization and embracement of Western ideals. Furthermore, China shows continuity through many organizations still being state-run.
DeleteContemporary China reflects change because many religions have changed over the years in China. Also because there has been adaptations made to certain religions in order to fit in with the Chinese culture. China has also changed from a mainly farming society to an industrial society. The way China shows continuity is the way it has been ruled has not changed drastically over time. It is still ruled by a dictatorship and parts of China are still isolated from all the others.
ReplyDeleteContemporary China reflects both continuity and change because of how it actually is changing. When the Chinese Communist Party came into power people were more disciplined. They can't express themselves however they want. Although that is going on they do also now trade with the west which is a good change.
ReplyDeleteContemporary China reflects change because watching "Tank Man" it showed how much China changed. In the film, it showed how there were two separate parts of China because of the dictatorship in the government. China A is made up of people who live stable lives and who are more of the middle and upper class. China B is made up of people who live unstable lives and who have more freedom although they are very poor and have to work on their own farms to have some stability in their lives. I think that most people do not believe in the modern China, but go along with it because they are forced too. In the "Chinese Communist Party" it talked about people who actually believed in the government and people who just went along because they knew that they had a better chance at being successful. In "Tank Man" it also showed the censorship that is in China. The government wants complete control and having censorship allows them to control everything that China sees and hears about.
ReplyDeleteChina is recently reverting back to Confucianism in order for the government to have more power. This is an older philosophy that is now going to aid in giving the government and the Chinese Communist Party more respect from it's people, because it says that the most important relationship is between ruler and ruled. Contemporary China has also become more open with trading to the West, whereas before there was very little trade going on. China's censorship laws have become much more strict and difficult to get around.
ReplyDeleteContemporary China expresses continuity because it has become a leader in many industrial economic areas which will only grow in the future. China also reflects change because it is starting to open up more and is becoming more involved in the world economy which is an improvement from the old ways of China.
ReplyDeleteContemporary China reflects continuity and change. Dictatorship has been consistent of Contemporary China. Like Tank Man, the dictators of China securely censor China's searches and how they use the internet. The living conditions of China have stayed the same for the lower classes and working conditions. Contemporary China shows changes in their economy because they now do not have a limited trade with the West. Throughout time China's religions have evolved along with their businesses.
ReplyDeleteContemporary China reflects both continuity by its continually growing economy. Communism in China has made more people richer and has widened the gap between the upper and lower classes. Change has also occurred in China after the elimination of imperial powers and the introduction of communism. As communism took over China, demonstrations of government control are showed in violent ways. There is little hope for democracy in China because of the communist domination, which makes for a more submissive population to obey the strict laws. This made what China is today, an improperly balanced society with a no-questions-asked work policy.
ReplyDeleteThe Chinese Communist Party reflects continuity in China. This single party has remained powerful in China for many years. It continues to have an influence on everything that goes on in China. The rural parts of China where agriculture is the main industry also reflect continuity. These farmers have been living pretty much the same way as their ancestors had many years ago. They have developed and modernized very little compared to other parts of China. China is changing into an economic global superpower. This is a change from the past. Also, though the Communist party is still prevalent, it does not maintain as much power as it used to.
ReplyDeletePresent day China reflects change because the country as a whole has become a more developed country. I believe that it has also changed because China has become somewhat of a less Communist country. In the "Chinese Communist Party" article, it said that the Communist party was in fact trying to stay out of the lives of common citizens until conflict had been discovered. China also reflects upon continuity because of the history development of the present culture.
ReplyDeleteContemporary China demonstrates change because it has seen night and day differences in its past. It has grown from being a very violent seen (The Tank Man and student uprisings) into being a well known strong economic system. China is better economically than it was in 1989, but the growth has also presented new and continuing problems, such as the lower class struggling everyday.
ReplyDeleteContemporary China reflects continuity because not all that much has changed. Although there are more rich people in China, the working class still has nearly no rights, the Communist government is still in control, and there are still constant fights for democracy and representation. It reflects change because the government has moved more towards a capitalist society, workers have SOME rights, and, as stated before, the upper and middle classes have gotten larger.
ReplyDeleteChina has faced many changed throughout its history. New leaders have taken the reigns of China but the Communist Party still prevails. The economic stability shows how far China has come from the Opium wars to a global leader in manufacturing.
ReplyDeleteContemporary China reflects continuity and change through its growing economy. The economy shows how China is getting away from a traditional communist party by becoming more of a capitalist society. The Tank Man showed how people started pushing for change by going against the government. China in some ways is headed in a positive direction but there is still much development necessary in the rural areas of China.
ReplyDeleteA global superpower, contemporary China reflects both continuity and change. A largely agrarian country, China once relied heavily on agriculture to sustain its economy. However, due to rapid urbanization, China's economy is shifting an industrialized state-- emphasized by the student demonstrations in Tienanmen Square. China is becoming an capitalist country by allowing open international trade and commerce. Furthermore, the Chinese Communist Party reflects historical continuity. Since Mao's rise to power in 1949, the communists have enjoyed 64 years of rule. The Chinese Communist Party has become a symbol for continuity despite intense urbanization and a shift towards a capitalist economy.
