  1. U.P.S. Bills Stores as Small-Business Solution
    http://www.nytimes.com/2012/09/20/business/media/ups-bills-stores-as-small-business-solution.html?_r=0

Giving a little bit of comedy when the reader reads the chapter title of the eighth flattener. UPS is more than a company that makes its delivery man or woman were brown shorts. It has is part in every business big or small. "U.P.S. Bills Stores as Small-Business Solution," article talks about how the new advertisement by UPS is directed towards small businesses, and how UPS could help with logistics and growing the business. UPS new slogan is, "We Heart Logistics." In the book, The World Is Flat, Friedman writes that with UPS the small can become big, and this is in direct correlation with the article.

  2. After Outsourcing Boom, An 'Insourcing' Comeback?
    http://www.npr.org/2013/01/04/168616446/after-outsourcing-boom-an-insourcing-comeback

Insourcing, as described in the article, is making things in the U.S. that were previously being made somewhere outside of the U.S. The article describes the confidence in spending that the American people now have, which drives manufacturers back to the U.S. to minimize shipping costs from foreign countries. This steadily boosts the American economy and the American employment rate, creating more American jobs. The article describes GE bringing manufacturing factories back to the States after learning that they can save money by selling products for a lower price, bringing more customers. This correlates to The World is Flat by showing the synchronization of companies' interactions with its customers and suppliers, thus, adding to a more flat world than before.

  3. President Visits Wisconsin Factory to Hail ‘Insourcing’ Plan http://www.nytimes.com/2012/02/16/us/politics/obama-hails-insourcing-at-wisconsin-factory.html

This article talks about President Obama going to a factory in Wisconsin to praise the factory owner for a plan to insource jobs from China and other countries around the world. Obama said that companies are now realizing that the cost of manufacturing in the U.S is not that different from elsewhere. This relates to the book because Friedman talks about insourcing. He talks about how it brings more jobs into a certain area. This is why Obama was hailing the company for insourcing from other countries.

  4. With U.P.S. Deal, European Antitrust Regulators Block Another Big Mergerhttp://dealbook.nytimes.com/2013/01/14/with-u-p-s-deal-european-antitrust-regulators-block-another-big-merger/?hpw
UPS made a bid to TNT express that was blocked by the European Union. Their argument was that they way airlines worked and the asset sales would not have enough competition in package delivery. This relates to Flattener 8 because UPS started to insource. Companies like UPS started to go global and they had to manage the supply chain.
